Cavs' Game 4 Blueprint: Mitchell 25, Harden 20, Allen and Mobley 15 Each — The Exact Formula for Tying the Series
Series tied 2-2 is the only acceptable outcome tonight.
Cavs are 5-0 at home in the postseason. They're on their home court. They just beat Detroit 116-109 in Game 3. The momentum is real.
But the formula is strict. If the Cavs want to win tonight, here's what has to happen.
Mitchell Has to Score 25
Not 20. Not 22. Twenty-five. Mitchell is the closer. He's the guy who takes over in the fourth quarter. Against Detroit's defense he's been crowded. He's been forced into tough looks.
Tonight he needs to be aggressive early. Get to 10 in the first half. Then take over in the second half and get to 25. If Mitchell is 25+, the Cavs win. If he's under 20, they lose.
Harden Brings the 20
Harden was the hero in Game 3. Seven points in the final 90 seconds. He carried the team down the stretch. Against Detroit's defense he's gotta be efficient and consistent.
Twenty points on solid shooting. That's the number. Not 15. Not 18. Twenty. He's gotta be a primary scorer in the first half and finish strong in the fourth.
Allen and Mobley Both Get 15
This is the key. The Cavs need their big men to produce. Allen needs to be around the basket. Mobley needs to be aggressive offensively. Together they need 30 points.
If both of them are at 15, that's 60 combined from Mitchell, Harden, Allen, and Mobley. That's championship-level production from your top four.
The problem is consistency. They both had soft games at times in this series. Tonight they both gotta be hungry. Both gotta attack early.
Ball Security Is Everything
The Cavs lost Game 4 of the Toronto series with 18 turnovers. Tonight they gotta be under 12. Probably closer to 10.
Detroit forces tough half-court possessions. If the Cavs are careless with the ball, Detroit's transition defense destroys them. Keep it under control. Take care of the basketball.
Strus and Merrill Provide Spacing
Max Strus came off the bench for 20 in the Game 3 win. Sam Merrill hit big shots. Against Detroit's defense that spacing is critical. They need solid minutes from both guys. Not 20 each. But consistent contributions.
Strus at 12-15 minutes with solid three-point shooting. Merrill the same. They open up the offense for Mitchell and Harden.
The Real Test
Detroit is still the better team. But the Cavs have home court. They have momentum. They have a formula that works.
Mitchell 25. Harden 20. Allen 15. Mobley 15. Strus and Merrill efficient. Under 12 turnovers.
That adds up to a Cavs win and a series tied at 2-2 heading back to Detroit.
Anything less and Detroit goes up 3-1 and this series is over.
